Triple D, I Double T -- Revisited

just a quick Sunday night note about how strong and boyish and brave and nice this guy David is...

Two years and three months ago, he was this:

broke ass Achilles tendon
And now he's back in the saddle again, putting fear into all soccer balls everywhere:

The most beautiful day

the good sport.  Smiling all the way.

Where do I start?

Last week was rocky.  Naturally all things come to a head, crash and burn, I meltdown, and then pick myself up again.  All is well right now, not solved or fixed, but at least daily life is back to normal and the big things in life (love, work, family) are all works in progress.  aye yay yay.

what else?  well, there's lots in the news right now.  Norway rocked by a bombing, teacher has sex and does coke with 16 year old student, same sex marriage legalized in NY, US debt management bills in DC, Amy Winehouse dies of drug overdose, Comic-Con, Rupert Murdoch is effed, etc....oh yeah, and Xzhibit speaks out against planking. He sure is making ABQ proud by speaking out against such serious topic.  not.

Anyways, besides the .28 hours we spent reading the paper this weekend, we didn't spend too much time thinking about any of these breaking news stories.  It's too heavy and never ending.  Instead, we dedicated an entire weekend to hanging out together.  I know, seems fairly simple, but because of the chaos of our lives, it's a rarity.  On Saturday we woke up early and grabbed coffee and burritos and saw Captain America.  It was really good!  Of all the comic movies I've been dragged to, it was def close to the top (after Batman and Iron Man).  Like, f i n a l l y.  A comic movie with some back story.  After that we came home, napped, watched tv, relaxed, made some guacamole, and sat under the AC.  The clouds came in and we headed out to Summerfest where we got in some really good, up close people watching.  Damn there are some weird people in this city.  We got our jollies, had a few drinks and then met up with some friends at Geckos for drinks and dinner. Other perks:  I LOVED the classic car show, the drum circle, and walking down Central right next to a real life prostitute.   It was a good balance of 'alone time' while being surrounded by thousands of people.

On Sunday, guess what we did?  yep, got up and went and saw another movie.  Who can blame us?  there are a lot of really good movies out right now and it's dark and air conditioned. AND I <3 cheap matinee showings. We saw Horrible Bosses.  It's really funny, go see it, I'm tellin ya.  Then we lunched at Brickstreet Dive and read the paper.  I rarely get to go there so I'll jump at the chance to order some bruschetta and hand made pizzas on a whole wheat crust. num num.  Dave was complaining all weekend that he was coughing up blood, and me being the doting and nurturing lover told him he was overreacting, complaining and he should get over it.  Ends up he's got a little cold or something so we relaxed at home and got him dosed up and in bed for some afternoon rest.  I watched Monsoon Wedding (sigh, I love it) and looked up ticket prices to India while I prepared myself for re-entry to India with an Indian movie about an Indian wedding.  Anyways, Dave woke up and we ventured to Frontier for some green chile stew where I made a new friend.  During an awkward silence while waiting for my receipt to print, I channeled David's small chat skillz and asked the skinny young white guy taking my order if he had a long day ahead of him.  He told me how he had spent the day dropping off demo cds to record stores in town to promote his rap group.  They are called Deadite Killaz and perform such songs as "Stay Blunted" feat. Doom and SmeaR, "Ghetto Vampyrie" (did they spell it like that on purpose?) and "Serial Killer vs. Serial Killer."  He handed me FOUR cds with the tracks handwritten in cursive on each cd slip.  I'm pretty sure I should submit them to the police as handwriting samples.  Could be the break they need for a murder case.  Suffice to say, I am throwing these away (I listened to 10 secs of the first track...it's about stabbing someone in the jugular with a pen).  I was trying to be nice to a stranger and look what I got:  an angry angsty whitey juggalo who raps about sick crimes and pornos he sees on the internet. OMG.  I guess I was hoping it would be more along the lines of grass roots hip hop group.  not. at. all.  then some weird man stood and stared at me through the glass while D was in the bathroom.  awkward. freaking Frontier.  After, we got some frozen yogurt at OLO to change the mood / get rid of the creeped out taste in my mouth, then came home and watched the ceerrrazzzyyy lightning show, had a very long catch up phone call with D's mom, and watched Breaking Bad.

In summary:  I watched too much tv / movies, I didn't do anything productive, I missed Narayan terribly, I ate out a million times per day, my dogs didn't get walked, David might have a cold, I pinned 100 new things on Pinterest, I drank too much beer, and I feel very very very relaxed and once again happy, romanced, and bonded to my bf.

Sorry for the long rambling story :)

I leave you with this little guy who is tending my succulent garden these days:

family bo bamily

Today is a nice little break from the 'Michalski Family Extravaganza" which will be in full swing by tomorrow.  D's dad and his girlfriend arrived from New Hampshire on Sunday night and we mingled, ate, entertained, chatted, and then they headed out to Northern NM for a little road trip.  They will be back tomorrow and D's brother, sister-in-law and niece will fly in from Virginia late in the evening.

It's not often that this family has all of its members together and only maybe once a year do all of D's brothers meet up, so it will definitely be an extravaganza.  It's also the first time that D's niece has been to NM and met all the extended family.  It'll be busy busy busy.  They all have a lot to catch up on, and  I will be behind the scenes making sure everyone sleeps well, has clean towels, is fed, and has transportation.  :)

It will be interesting to see how we balance going back and forth between D's mom and dad and making sure that no one is being neglected and that everyone gets to visit enough.  I'm very thankful that my parents have a relationship of tolerance and that we can all have parties and have fun even though my parents are divorced (my mom's patience has a lot to do with how well we all get along).  D's parents aren't quite as friendly towards eachother as mine are and it makes for a lot of running back and forth between the two.  I know there is a lot of history and drama and emotions involved, so it's much safer to keep them separated, but I have a very 'Full House' wish that we could all just be one big happy family.  I know I can't control how all the Michalskis will get along, but at least I can do my best to make sure everyone is having a good time in their own respective places.

Someday when I have my own family, I will do everything in my absolute power to make sure we all stay together and get along and so my kids don't have to worry about splitting holidays with both parents, or inviting divorced parents to the same function.  It's no fun and it's too much stress for kids to deal with, even when they are 27 years old.

Ahhhh family, a blessing and a curse.

This week in pictures...

In honor of my favorite weekly Thursday posting HERE...

We will review the past week of April 10-17, 2011 as it was captured:

we're real classy people

David fulfilled my wildest fantasy by taking me down to U Pull U Pay.  JK.  It's one of those places I talk a lot of shit about, but can't resist my curiosity to go and see who needs car parts on a Saturday afternoon.  It was beautiful weather, and we successfully found a few Tacomas, 4Runners and Jeeps, of course none of them had the parts we needed.  It's so crazy how all the parts of a car can be pulled.  EVERY. SINGLE. PART.  On the ground are a million bolts, odometer needles, seatbelt buckles, car handles, hoses, gaskets, pumps, fuses, and little itty pieces of safety glass.  I am a firm believer that the pull and pay lot is haunted.  You are surrounded by 500 beat to shit cars and many of them look like the passengers must have died upon impact.  Dave laughs at me, but I feel it...all around...those ghosties...just watching us pull their car parts.  I also believe that the lot is a likely place to be murdered, this is not to say that the people who go there are not the most upstanding fellow citizens of our fair city, but as I look down the rows of FU**ED UP autos, I expect to see someone's feet being dragged under a car (I need to stop watching tv).  My final belief about the car lot is that 90% of the cars either belonged to DWI drivers, or DWI victims...very lame NM.  Oh yeah, one more car lot judgment:  the sections for domestic cars (Chevy, Pontiac, Dodge, Ford) are ginormo and separated by make, whereas the section for foreign cars is pretty small, mainly contains cars from the 70s and 80s, and all of them are grouped into one section that is less than half the size of the Ford section...just sayin...

See our lovely volcanoes in the distance? One more car note...  the main reason I agree to go is because I believe someday I will find a million dollars of border smuggled drug money in one of these cars.  Not too far from the truth?

I bought some flowers and plants this weekend to kick start my Spring time cheer.  It worked.  I also did some fierce yard work in D's mom's front yard and it felt good to get all stinky and dirty and have my muscles sore from my hardcore raking and monster tight pruning (and yes, that's the full moon rising in the distance.  Can you believe it's been a month since super moon?)

Have you ever met someone addicted to succulents?  Hi.  My name is Rebecca and I've never met a succulent I didn't like.  I love them.  They are unique, a-sexual, and can survive the harshest droughts by storing moisture in their little body parts.  Little survivors.  And did I mention how unique they are?  Everytime I go to Lowe's, I find a new one I've never seen before.  I especially like the one that looks like butt cheeks and also can't resist a little cactus :)

We had an impromptu dog-shadow-afternoon-photo-shoot.  No animals were harmed, and afterwards, they both got oatmeal shampoo dog baths.

This is my favorite baby boy.  I watched him last Sunday and after he took a huge leaking dookie in his diaper, I realized that my sister forgot to bring extra diapers and wipes.  I jumped into action.  He got a thorough spray off in the shower and then I created some "big boy undaweahs (underwear)" out of some old school white cotton lady hanes her way that I have taking up space in my drawer from my days in India.  He liked them and was a great model.  I especially love the 'over-the-shoulder' look.  LLLLLLOVE my Narayan  <3 <3 <3 (oh yeah, and the next day I dried my face off with the towel I used on him...BIG mistake...it smelled like caca.  A warm preview of parentood?)

La la la love story-ish, pt. 2

sooooooooooooo..... finally a continuation of this post.

I went to D's bday party.  Back in the day he lived in a casita guest house behind a larger house he sat for 9 mos out of the year.  I didn't know this at the time, and thought that the main house (where the party was) was his actual house. I remember thinking he had a worldly decorating style and was really impressed that there was quinoa and organic foods in his cupboards...ehhh wrong.

Summer 2005

Anyways, went inside, super nervous, he was nervous, I shook hands, I looked around and didn't know anyone, said I could only stay for a bit but wanted to say hi, and suggested that we take a Happy Birthday shot of Jack Daniels (to ease the nerves).  I ended up staying a long time and somehow spent almost all my time in the kitchen, chatting with D and meeting his friends and family.  I remember standing in the kitchen and realizing he was a lot shorter than I remembered and I shouldn't have worn my platform flip flops.  I slouched while we talked. He only left me once to go to the bathroom, and I was so shocked that he stuck by me the entire time instead of joining his party.  Eventually he mentioned that he lived in the guest house and I went with him to 'get the tour.'   There were a few people in there, but we didn't notice.  He was pretty drunky drunk by then and kept asking "Why are you here?  Like I thought you wouldn't come.  And you never talk to me at work...why are you here?  Like I'm really glad you're here...but just surprised" etc etc etc.  I think I admitted that I had a crush on him and one thing led to another and we had a very sweet first kiss. I remember telling him he was missing out on his party and all his friends were going to be mad that he was MIA, but he said he would much rather be with me :) I left shortly after (I had a test the next morning) and he walked me to my car.  He invited me to hang out the next night and made me promise that I would call him when I got home.

the first birthday of mine that we celebrated together Oct. 2005

D's birthday 2006 and almost our 1yr anniversary
back in the days of disposable cameras
I saw him at work the next day and it was soooo awkward.  He kept trying to hold my hand in the break room in front of other people, and I kept putting my hands in my pockets because I didn't want anyone to think I was another one of Dave's "ladies."  Oh gosh.  We hung out later that night.  We chatted in his hot tub for a while and I kept thinking to myself  "seriously, first date and he's already got me in a bikini?"  Then he did the unthinkable...."So, Rachel...."  I was barely clothed, in a hot tub, and he didn't even know my name?  I had visions of just getting up and leaving right then and there.  But I stayed...I gave him a second chance and stayed to watch a movie and ended up staying the night (no! no hanky panky AND I slept in my bathing suit!) hehe.  And don't think I let him get away with calling me the wrong name!  No!  I sternly corrected him and still remind him about it to this day.  He even calls me Rachel sometimes, because he knows it KILLLLLS me.

Halloween 2006?

The next day he took me to meet his mom (to pass some "mom test" I presume), and then later that night we watched North Shore.  During the movie I hinted that I was kinda seeing other people and he took the leap and officially asked me to be his girlfriend because he thought this was something special and he didn't want to lose me to someone else (feminists would not be pleased with this statement, but I thought it was cute).

first trip to Cali for my birthday - Oct. 2006

And that was that!  Happily ever after!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!                 NOT.

There were enough good times to get me hooked, and enough bad times to make me question my sanity.  We would be on top of the world, and every three or four months, D would have an emotional crash and burn.  I never ever gave up and for whatever reason, kept telling him and myself, "I'm not saying we are going to be together forever, but I believe that for this time in my life, we are supposed to be together."  It was just me being stubborn (I've always been the one to dictate the course of my relationships) and living with a big case of denial.  But I loved him and felt like I knew him better than anyone else and that okay, you can't change a guy, but he can most definitely change himself, and I would give him something worth changing for.  It worked!

I tell D all the time, we definitely would not be where we are now if we didn't learn from the lessons in our past and we are much better off because of it.  Get all the big drama out in the open early on so that you aren't dealing with it later on and so you have a completely clear picture of the person you are with and don't find out when it's too late.  We have both grown up and matured and become very committed people and now that all that drama is behind us, it is smooth sailing :)  Part of me does miss the youth of the old days though, sharing a twin sized bed, playing video games, scraping by with almost empty bank accounts, driving broke down cars, D working as a lifeguard, me a nanny, studying at flying star, having house parties, ditching classes, being carefree...but all those things have been replaced by ONE even better thing:  "OUR."  Our house, our dogs, our decisions, our things, our families, our trips, our time, our friends, our future...Life is good.

Here's to six years!  Huzzah!  Huzzah!

la la la love story-ish, pt. 1

okay okay, sooooooooooooo.......

Let's go back to Fall 2003.  I was a young, shy, little college freshman and only god knows why, but I was taking Math 121 at like 8 or 9am M,W,F.  My only stresses in life were making sure I had the right clothes, straight hair, and getting to my freaking early math class on time.  On the other hand there was this guy who would show up ten minutes late EVERY DAY.  He looked all carefree and effortless with his dark shades and big long board.  He would sneak in and then sit down with the soccer girls (or swim girls, depending on the day) who always saved him a seat.  My thoughts:  what a cocky jerk (in today's terms this translates into "douche bag").  Maybe a few times we locked eyes, and maybe walked past each other in the Dane Smith halls, but I always kept my head down and didn't invite attention...just secretly watched and judged.  I failed that class.

Something like six months later, I was working at UNM Children's Campus (fancy for 'daycare') and as I was headed to the bathroom, here comes the sunglasses/longboard/cocky math class guy who looks like he just got hired and is getting the grand tour.  He recognized me too and smiled and said something like "hey how's it going?" and I bashfully looked down, stuttered some response, and ducked into the kitchen.  That encounter set the standard for the following six months.  He would say hi or try to start conversation and I would throw a dirty look or just ignore him.  (D says he tried and tried to talk to this cute girl, but eventually gave up because she was so stone cold). Don't ask me why...it's very rude and I can't imagine behaving like that now, but back then I was seriously sooo shy, and as a young lady who had just started college, I was getting a lot of unwanted attention from strange boys, and I didn't want to invite any weirdos into my life so instead I acted like the meanest girl on the planet.

Can you believe that hair? no wonder I thought he was just another weirdo

At this same time I was long distance dating a gentleman in Dallas and I felt like since nobody really knew he existed (because we weren't seen hanging out with friends or going to parties) that boys would make advances not knowing I had a boyfriend, so it was my job to make myself unavailable (by using my scowl face). Dallas boy and I were on and off for like a year and a half (I didn't realize it was that long! but now that I think about it...).  We would meet up every three or four months and really only communicated via email (we were both shy...gosh that seems so stupid now).  Towards the end it got kinda rocky because although there was a great spark between us, he wanted me to move to Texas, and we had a lot in common (oddly enough), he had some depression issues.  Also, things really clicked between us and I could see myself being the wealthy wife of the mayor's son, having a beautiful home, and being on the board of the country club, but who am I kidding?  that's not me at all.  I was really intimidated by the kind of money his family had and I just couldn't get over the feelings attached with that.  It fizzled.

Sometime after Dallas and I broke up, I started noticing the other blokes around me and front and center was that one guy.  He was one of the few guys that worked at the daycare and the kids and parents really liked him.  He worked with the preschool kids and they would be crawling all over him and chasing him and screaming at the top of their lungs when he hung them upside down (I would spy on him from my classroom). I started squeezing out my first words and would manage a 'hi' or 'it's going good! and you?' in passing and soon after, for some unknown reason, I became obsessed with him.  I would watch for him through my classroom windows and would "go to the bathroom" if I knew he'd be in the same area so I could run into him and exchange our little "HIs"  I also started taking my lunches and breaks at the same time as him so that I could quietly sit in the break room and could study him at a closer vantage.  He was friends with EVERYONE.  young, old, tall, short, man, woman, parent, teacher, child, janitor, kitchen lady, etc.  He seemed like best friends with the whole world and I was the complete opposite and only spoke to people if I absolutely had to. It was interesting....like a case study of socializing...and he was the subject in question.

The only surviving picture of D in action at the daycare and it's very telling of his relationship with the kids.  Please notice the cali cap, birkenstocks, and dark sunglasses.  Also, that's my classroom in the background.  I almost expect to see my face, spying on him through the window.

One day we had this freak snow storm in the middle of the day and I saw he had his kids out in the courtyard so I bundled up my poor little toddlers and headed out to join him.  He complimented me on my clogs and showed me his own Birkenstock clogs :) and asked if I had heard the soundtrack for the movie Garden State, and I said I had just downloaded it the weekend before and loved it :) and we both agreed the movie was really good, and he might have even quoted the phrase "It says BALLS on your forehead."  It was our first conversation and I was hooked.  I kept those poor children outside way too long and they were all wet and cold, but I didn't want to cut our first encounter short.  Later the center was sending people home and he was going to stay until all the kids got picked up and I have this memory of him standing in front of crying babies, waving his hands and saying "don't cry, don't cry" (he only worked with older kids, and now he was in my territory in baby land).  I showed off my skills and got them all fed and happy and he looked soooo bemused.  I replayed that afternoon in my head for the rest of the weekend.

the good old daycare days
It's embarrassing to admit, but I even fibbed to a few of my friends about him.  I said he was going to take me snowboarding and we had hung out a few times...but I think it was just wishful thinking.  I even fibbed to him once, just to get closer.  I knew we had a mutual friend (an old hook up of mine) and I owed him money but didn't have his new phone number so one day during our break I asked Dave if he had this guy's number.  He didn't but he knew a way to get it so we exchanged numbers and he said he would call me later.  He did call me later and the conversation only lasted 30 seconds, he sounded really nervous.  "Hi, Rebecca?  This is David.  From work?"  By giving him my number, and an excuse to call me I thought it would be love at hello, but nope, he says now that he thought I wasn't interested in him since I was asking him to get the phone number of a different guy.  Alas, I called the guy, paid off the loan, and hooked up with him.

A few more months went by, and on Thursday, March 24, 2005, during our break I casually asked "what are your plans this weekend?" and he replied "well actually it's my birthday and I'm having a party tonight.  you should come!  I'll call you later today to give you directions."  I was so excited and I remember going to the mall with two of my friends and buying some new clothes and he called while I was driving home.  Another very nervous phone call "Hi Rebecca?  This is David.  David from work? Remember it's my birthday today?"  He gave me directions to his house, and it happened to be next door to a guy that I had briefly dated the year before (such a floosy right?).  What a coincidence.  I still lived at home and I remember sitting on the couch talking to my mom and her friend, and being soooo nervous about going and my mom wanted to know who this guy was, but I didn't really have much to say, I didn't know anything about him, except that I stalked him at work. I asked a few friends to go with me and they all bailed so I finally mustered up the guts to go alone.

To be continued..... HERE.

Sprizzle

So not much to report for this weekend except that it was nice, warm, and relaxing and that we had no plans for the first time ever, and I was in heaven.  Saturday we had brunch on the patio at Standard Diner and sat in the sun for 2hrs with our mimosas, yummy breakfast, and the newspaper.  We got to overhear some interesting conversations, did some people watching, and cheered on the anti-Libya / pro-peace demonstration parade that came down Central.  Then we headed home to walk los perros to the park and there was a lady there with her kid and they had this miracle contraption called a 'Summer Sled.'  It's like a normal sled, but you lay on your belly, head first, and it has big truck wheels on the bottom.  I was scared at first, but then loved it.  We let them play ball with our dogs and we hijacked their sled.

the hill is actually a lot bigger than the pictures depict

After our summer sledding we were gonna drop by a PRN work party real quick and then maybe watch some basketball with friends.  We ended up staying at the work party allll night long (i know, me? really?) and we had lots of fun.  We also got to see super moon rise from the roof top!

On Sunday I nursed my hangover with some Golden Pride and Starbucks and then we met my mom at the dog park for some catching up.  Then we cleaned the house top to bottom (I even cleaned the carpets!) and it felt sooo good to relax afterwards and watch the Harry Potter marathon with the house glistening and sparkling.  We went to family dinner and then finished the weekend off with a night of 30 rock episodes (the same way we started the weekend)....love the weekends.  Luckily I have a three day work week ahead of me and the next weekend will be here before you know it!  (along with D's birthday -- I've hit a wall in thinking of birthday surprise ideas -- argh -- and our anniversary -- we are taking the train to Santa Fe -- yayay!).

Happy Monday!

Current Events!

1.  Last week I led a few training sessions at work...and survived.  They went pretty well and I feel at ease going back to work tomorrow to give the last session, but after this I'm done!  No more trainings, ever.  I can now list on my resume that I have trained my colleagues on an internal operating system, and I will ask for a starting salary of $1,000,000.  Thank you very much.

2.  yowzer!  So much is going on in the world the past few weeks!  There is so much international news lately it's been hard to keep up with it, there's more and more everyday.  Of course reading all the news makes me thankful that I live a fairly quiet life, but also makes me wish there was more I could do besides just sending good thoughts.  It's so hard to believe all the change that is going on and the world is soo big and there are so many lives affected by nature and by man made institutions and that good things happen and bad things happen and this is the ebb and flow of the world.  yowzer x2.

3.  Last weekend I bought a ton of frames at a thrift store and then jazzed them up with some ivory satin spray paint.  It took me a few days but I'm pretty happy with the final product.  At first I thought the pictures looked too bunched up on the wall, but I hope to eventually add two larger frames on either side to kinda balance it out and also maybe put a table or short long bookshelf underneath so it looks all tied together and intentional.

two coats of paint = two cans of spray paint
I tried out multiple arrangements, it was frustrating to say the least

 4.  David has been a crazy workaholic the last week and I think things are finally winding down.  There were massive problems at work and he handled all the millions of phone calls with grace and poise.  I was very very proud of him and it gave me a glimpse into the future when he is the high powered executive of a solar powered medical equipment start up company.  He has come a long way in this job, and quite frankly I think he has surpassed it and should move on to a new project.  He will only move up and up and up, and at his current company, I'm afraid he might just get stuck frantically running in place.  Naturally, things will work themselves out and we will both end up doing something completely different than what we started with.

5. I just got a call from one of my really good girlfriends that she got engaged over the weekend!  We are both on the same page as far as not being over hyped about engagements (she and her dude have been together for 8 years) but more interested in finally just doing the deed, but I'm still so happy for her!  Still can't believe we are grown ups now.  I filled the warm afternoon with memories of her and her soon to be hubby, memories that date back to high school...craziness.

6.  Holy heck!?  it's SPRING!!!  the time change is official and now I am back to enjoying the looonnnnnggg days.  You've never seen a girl as happy as me when I go to lunch at 6pm and the sun is still high in the sky.  I get to sit outside and take walks on the bike paths and drive with the windows down....LOVE daylight savings / springtime.  Also in Spring news, some tulips came up!  and like clockwork, those naughty dogs dug them up and ate the bulbs.

7.  This weekend we FINALLY got a car trailer from U-Haul and brought the Jeep down from Santa Fe.  It's been about six weeks that D's aunt has had our car in her driveway, and she was sooo gracious and never called us to get it the heck outta there.  But we did, bc we need to figure out what to do will el Jepe, and we can't do anything with it until it is actually here, in ABQ.  We borrowed D's bro's truck and headed up!  It was a nice day and a really nice little car trip and we reminisced about the good times and road trips we took in el Jepe...may he rest in peace.
Now that D has seen Jepe's face again, he wants to fix him and resell him....but I'm putting my foot down on this one.  It's time to say goodbye and let someone else take care of Jeep defects.

Belated Weekend Re-cap

What did I do last weekend?  Well thanks for asking!

On Saturday David went snowboarding with some friends and since I would be staying home all day, I offered to dog sit their new white lab.  He's a handful...to say the least.  He's like a 100 lbs big boy puppy who wants to play / hump all the time.  Of course he finally chilled out and I thought I would run to Costplus real quick to pick  up some Vday presents, so I put him in Lola's crate and ran out the door.  When I came back, who greeted me at the door?  yep, 100 lb Modus/Houdini escaped from the crate, without even opening the crate door.

Then on Sunday, I babysat my nephew.  I know, such an exciting life right?  He was a good boy.He had fun following Dave around all day and then took a whopping 3.5 hour nap.  Evidence:

THEN, I had Monday off to 'celebrate' Valentines Day.  I thought I would do something nice for D because he is really good at surprising me and being thoughtful, and I'm not.  I cleaned house and made a cheese platter, steamed artichokes, and oysters baked with bacon and blue cheese.  And, inspired by the latest trends in forts seen here and here, I built this beauty:

You know, lots of string, a couple of sheets, some xmas lights, and our futon.  It was a hit.  D was super surprised (I kept the living room closed off until we went in there and all the candles and lights were lit).  We ate our dinner in the fort, and then cuddled up and watched Steven Speilberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."  I wanted to keep the fort up for a while, but alas, it had to come down when David had people over the watch the Lobo game last night.

So that's about it!  Exciting, I know.

The final bonus is that my work week was only 4 days, and that I'm almost through it and on to another weekend.  Holla.
