Thank you Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday to tide me over til Christmas.  It's full of food and family, triple pay and paid vacation days...love it.  On Thursday I went over to my mom's house and we had a Whole Foods Thanksgiving.  Just a week earlier I was wondering, 'Who would buy an entire T-giving meal from Whole Foods?'  Answer:  my family.  Oh well, it was pretty good and satisfied both the vegetarians and turkey eaters, everything just needed a dash of salt.

While everything was being warmed and put into nicer dishware, I was on Narayan duty.

On Friday I went to my Dad's house to have Thanksgiving left overs with him and my little brother.  My Dad is a very capable cook, he just lacks in the taste and seasoning department.  We had turkey, stove top stuffing, yams (which required a lot of salt to distract me from the texture) and beets (which I had to cut up and mask with stuffing to distract me from the taste).  Also, Quinn made a sweet potato pie that was pretty dang good and I brought some egg nog and italian orange soda to wash it all down.  Our after dinner drink?  Nat'y Light of course!

My dad is a hoarder of junk, and cleaning to him means, making organized stacks and piles and dusting, so it is always interesting to go to his house and see what new things he has found / collected / bought (more on this later).  A few things of interest:  laser light cat toys he bought at his favorite store Big Lots, they don't work, and he doesn't have a cat or know anyone with a cat.  He has one room in the house that he calls "the clean room" and it is mostly a living shrine to childhood toys; his, mine, Quinn's, and I'm sure some even from my older brother and sister.  Lastly, he recently bought a Victrola record player from a yard sale with a ton of super old classy records that we played with for a while.  It was definitely a good find, but I have a nagging feeling that he already has two others hiding somewhere....

of course he had to read a few insightful words from "Surfer Girl"...don't ask, it was probably on sale.

After dinner we walked across the street to go look at the migrating birds that stop by in a nearby field.  Also celebrating Thanksgiving was a very not shy coyote who was snacking on something / someone.  It was a nice walk, bright and warm, we saw Sandhill cranes, geese, a coyote, Quinn found a cocoon, and my Dad had to ruin it by saying "who wants to take a hit?"  Argh.  Some things never change.  Besides that one moment, it was a nice post-Thanksgiving day.

see that sly coyote?  he's trying to be all camouflage

final note:  I'm sitting next to the heater watching The Wizard of Oz and I thought I would leave you with another random Dad Big Lot's buy.  He bought a few packs of LED mini Christmas lights and I was excited to bust 'em out to light 'em up until I realized they only hook up to a USB port (which is probably the reason they were so cheap)...so they are bedazzling my laptop.  very interesting.
