and so merry christmas

that mean old dave is prematurely taking the tree down the day after Christmas

It was the best Christmas I can remember in a really long time.  It was by far the best Christmas of my adult life. My family came over to the house in the morning and relaxed with muffins, presents and the Christmas Story, and then we all headed over to D's mom's house for a combined family dinner (to die for) and then my family left and D's family opened their presents.  It was amazing.  I wasn't driving all over town trying to please everyone and had no stress about having our families together for the first time.  No tears all day!

My parents are loners and we don't have a big family so they are usually scrambling for Xmas dinner plans or staying home with a bean burrito.  My mom kept saying it was her best Xmas ever and she was sooooooo happy to be around a big family and she really enjoyed talking to everyone.  My dad was on his BEST behavior and even played the piano in the background as everyone got ready for dinner.  It was all very sweet and in contrast to last year, D and I got a lot of quality time in and were really happy that our families got along great.  Can you believe it?  6.5 years together and we are just now combining the holiday?

Also, we got a dud of a tree this year and it has been a present fire danger for the past three weeks.  D took it down so we could start up the fireplace without risking a fireball in the living room.  It's fine, we're going out of town this weekend and don't want to leave it up anyways, but it was a little too soon for me.  I played Sinatra Christmas carols and reminisced on the past few weeks with our first real tree, our first Xmas with Lola girl, and my whirlwind of a month since coming back from India.

FOG!

Dave in Christmas present heaven
now we're getting ready for our New Year's Eve trip to New York City this Saturday!  soooooo excited.  All week I've been thinking, "this time next week I'll be in NYC mmmmm...."  I've ALWAYS wanted to go, and this year we finally made it happen.  We'll be there for a week and plan to see all the sites and buildings and parks and museums and food and people.  I love taking vacations with just the two of us and feeling like we're all alone, no one knows us, and it's an experience that only we will remember.
